Cinnamon Rose Swirl Rolls

Let's start the Fall season with this amazing and delicious warm bake- Cinnamon Roll! I still remember the first time I had this delicacy was in my early 20s (it was not so common in India as it is now)

So let's jump in step by step:

Ingredients:

AP Flour- 180 gms

Caster sugar - 25 gms

Salt-1/4 tsp

Instant yeast- 3.5 gms

Milk-60 ml (luke warm -not hot/ boiling)

Water- 30 ml

Butter- 1.5tbsp (room temp)

Egg- Half (room temp)

Vanilla Essence- 1/2 tsp

Filling:

Butter - 2tbsp (softened)

Light brown sugar- 4 tbsp

Cinnamon (as much as you like)

Frosting:

Cream cheese- 1/4 cup

Milk to soften

Icing sugar- 1.5-2 tbsp

3-4 tbsp Cinnamon

Lemon zest (optional)

Red Organic food color to mix it with the milk-1 tsp

Recipe:

  1. In a bowl, weigh the flour.

  2. In another bowl add in the warm milk, sugar, water, yeast and mix well

  3. Add the milk mixture to the flour, then add in the egg+vanilla essence.

  4. Knead till the dough comes together, add in the softened butter, knead. Finally add in the salt and knead till it passes the window pane test.

  5. In a greased bowl, cover the dough and let it double in a warm place ( depends on the weather- it might take 1 hr , keep an eye)

  6. Once doubled, roll out on a clean surface, dusted with flour. Spread the butter, sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar and spread it out OR you could make a mixture of all the 3 and then just spread that out.

  7. Roll into a tight log. Using a thread cut into equal pieces ( refer to the reel)

  8. In a greased baking tray arrange the cut pieces and let it proof till it’s double ( I kept in the oven with the light on)

  9. Brush with milk once doubled and just before baking.

10. Preheat the oven at 190 C for 20 mins and bake for 25 mins in the middle rack

  1. Brush some butter for the shine /glaze.

  2. For the Frosting, soften the cream cheese using a spatula. Add in the milk+ color mixture, add in the icing sugar and lemon zest.

  3. Slather this on the cinnamon rolls and Enjoy warm :)
